Past
The Southern Granite Company was established in the years following the resolution of World War ll. The founders John M. Heard, Sr., John M. Heard, Jr. and Charles "Billy" Heard built the office in East Macon in 1958.
Throughout the late 50's and early 60's, Southern Granite Company began to grow. In order to provide a larger variety of memorials to the families throughout the Middle Georgia area, the company established a relationship with the Georgia Marble Company. This new relationship allowed the company to expand by manufacturing memorials in Georgia White Marble in addition to Granite. After earning the recognition of becoming an Official Authorized Georgia Marble Dealer, the founders deemed it necessary to change the company's name to Southern Granite and Marble Company.
In April of 1973, a young college graduate named Bunny Pierce found her home at Southern Granite & Marble Company. Across the next five decades she would serve in many capacities.
During 1986 the Heard family past the company ownership to Jimmy Trawick and his business partner Braxton Markert.
Around this same time Leroy Stubbs joined the company serving on the installation crew. Leroy would continue his dedicated work until his retirement in 2026.
Present Day
Bunny Pierce can still be found greeting families at our front door, creating custom hand made designs and serving in many various roles.
We are honored to follow in the foot steps of our predecessors and continue this vital service. Southern Granite and Marble Company has and will continue our mission of providing "Fine Quality Memorials".
