Past
The Southern Granite Company was established in the years following the resolution of World War ll. The foundering owners John M. Heard, Sr., John M. Heard, Jr. and Charles "Billy" Heard built the office building in Macon, GA in 1958.
Throughout the late 1950's and early 1960's, Southern Granite Company began growing. In order to provide a larger variety of memorials to customers, the company established a relationship with the Georgia Marble Company. This new relationship allowed the company to expand by manufacturing memorials in Georgia White Marble in addition to Granite. After earning the recognition of being an authorized Georgia Marble Dealer, Southern Granite Company officially changed it's name to Southern Granite and Marble Company.
In April of 1973, Bunny Pierce was hired as an artist. Across the next five decades she would would serve in many capacities in addition to designing memorials.
Ownership of the company changed hands in 1986 to Jimmy Trawick and his business partner Braxton Markert.
In the late 1980’s, Leroy Stubbs joined the company serving on the installation crew.
Present Day
Bunny Pierce is still serving in many various roles throughout the office. Leroy Stubbs is still actively serving as the Installation Foreman.
